Mastering Modern Recruitment is a comprehensive program that covers six modules that aim to help learners improve their recruitment practices and attract top talent. The modules cover topics such as the changing landscape of work and recruitment trends, maximizing resources, the pre-hiring phase, identifying and targeting top talent, creating an inclusive hiring process, and offering and onboarding new hires. Each module includes relevant examples to illustrate the concepts and strategies discussed. By the end of the course, learners will have a comprehensive understanding of how to improve recruitment practices, build a strong employer brand, and create an inclusive hiring process. 


25 hours 

Asynchronous self-paced course with six live weekly 1-hour group discussions (optional).

This includes the time participants work through conducting internal assessments, identifying gaps, and developing materials based on the resources provided.


The course will be delivered in a combination of self-directed readings, applied learning activities, and reflective exercises. Live sessions will focus on each module and allow participants to ask questions, discuss their experiences, and share their insights. The course will equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to develop and implement comprehensive recruitment strategies that will help to attract, select, and retain the best candidates.

Module 1:  Setting the Foundation

  • Exploring the changing landscape of work and current trends that impact recruitment
  • How recruitment practices impact an organization
  • Establishing the why and how of a recruitment strategy
  • Why recruitment efforts often fail
  • Assessing the current recruitment process and identifying gap-filling strategies
  • Setting and measuring recruitment goals

Module 2:  Maximizing Resources

  • Assessing available internal financial and human resources supports
  • Establishing a recruiting budget
  • Differentiating the 3-B options to fill your hiring needs
  • Examining 14 different recruiting models with their advantages and disadvantages
  • Modernizing the application process to save time and resources
  • Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in the recruitment process to increase efficiency

Module 3:  Pre-Hiring Phase

  • Understanding the power of employer branding in the recruitment process
  • How to develop a strong employer brand to attract top talent
  • Enhancing the overall candidate experience
  • Drafting structured job descriptions and writing creative ad copy
  • Understanding requirements for regulated and unregulated professions
  • Considerations for equitable compensation and benefits packages

Module 4:  Identifying and Targeting Top Talent

  • Embedding the concept of R.E.A.P. into your recruitment efforts
  • Conducting broad and/or targeted searches to identify and attract top talent
  • Understanding the power of networks
  • Moving fast or slow: how both approaches can impact applicant engagement
  • Here, there, or everywhere? Determining where to focus your recruitment efforts and resources

Module 5:  Creating an Inclusive Hiring Process

  • Understanding and incorporating inclusive hiring practices into the recruitment process
  • Proper pre-screening of applicants and considerations in the use of assessment tools
  • Identifying unconscious bias and breaking away from the status quo
  • Choosing and designing interview formats for screening candidates
  • Protecting the rights of candidates and avoiding potential grounds for discrimination
  • Avoiding common interviewing mistakes that can turn candidates  away

Module 6:  Offering and Onboarding New Hires

  • Navigating the job offer phase and how to keep it on track for all parties
  • Considerations for conducting reference checks and the weight it carries in the hiring decision
  • Identifying necessary training and orientation needs
  • Building a strong team culture through effective onboarding

Each module will include relevant examples to illustrate the concepts and strategies discussed. By the end of this course, learners will have a comprehensive understanding of how to assess and improve recruitment practices, build a strong employer brand, identify and target top talent, create an inclusive hiring process, navigate the offer phase and onboard new hires effectively, and maximize recruitment resources and budget.


Certificates are provided at the end of the six-week course.
